SECTION 400: COMPETITION
410 TYPES OF COMPETITION
411 SCAA Competition
411.1 SCAA competitions are those meets that are sponsored by the league.
411.2 SCAA competition shall include approved dual meets, SCAA league championships, and other league-sponsored meets.
412 Approved Competition
412.1 Approved competition is any meet that swimmers may use to qualify for the league championships.
412.2 Approved competition shall consist of approved dual meets, approved invitationals, and league-sponsored meets designated as approved, which are run in accordance with the SCAA Rules of Competition.
420 DUAL MEETS
421 Any meet that is scheduled between two or more member teams of SCAA and adheres to the SCAA rules of competition for dual meets shall be considered an approved dual meet.
422 Only SCAA member teams and their individual members may participate in approved dual meets.
423 Required Participation
423.1 A team must have at least 35% of their individual members participate in an individual event in order for a dual meet to count for that team as an approved meet for qualification for the league championships.
423.2 For rule 423 the number of individual members a team has shall be calculated using all those swimmers who have registered with the league for that season up to and including the meet in question.
424 Dual Meet Results.
424.1 Dual meet results must be properly recorded using Team Manager Software.
424.2 Dual meet results must be properly filed with the league Records Chair by emailing meet results and mailing a hard copy within two weeks of the meet.
425 Dual Meet Events.
425.1 The recommended order of events for dual
meets is as follows:
1. 200 Freestyle
2. Backstroke
3. Medley Relay
4. Breaststroke
5. 50 or 100 Freestyle
6. Butterfly
7. Individual Medley
8. 25 or 50 Freestyle
9. Freestyle Relay
425.2 Events offered are recommended for the
following age groups:
6 & under
7 - 8
9 - 10
11 - 12
13 - 14
15 & up
425.3 The standard events recommended for each
age group are as follows:
6 & Under

50 freestyle
25 backstroke
25 breaststroke
25 butterfly

425.4 Each event shall be offered for both boys and girls
425.6 Events shall be run with the younger age groups participating in that event preceding the older.
425.7 The girls event shall be run before the corresponding boys event.
425.9 Exceptions to rule 425.
425.91 Relays for the 6 & under age group shall be "mixed" boys and girls, with no restrictions as to the number of either gender required.
425.92 The 7 - 8 individual medley shall be open to any swimmer age 8 or younger.
425.93 Any changes in the recommended events may be made with prior consent of all competing teams. Any such changes must be recorded on the meet result form.
426 Participation in Events.
426.1 Each individual swimmer shall be able to participate in no more than three individual events, and two relay events.
426.2 Swimmers may participate in any event for which they meet the gender and age group criteria.
426.3 Swimmers may participate in more than one age group during the meet.
426.4 Relay swimmers shall be able to compete in the next higher age group provided that there are at least two swimmers from the proper age group on the relay.
426.5 Swimmers may not participate on more than one medley relay team, nor may they participate on more than one freestyle relay team.
427 Awards.
427.1 The league shall provide awards for first, second, and third place for individual events and for each swimmer for first place in relay events.
427.2 It shall be the host teams responsibility to supply the awards for a dual meet.
427.3 Teams may provide additional awards for their swimmers if they wish.
428 Scoring.
428.1 Scoring for dual meets shall be as follows:
Individual Events

Second place 3 points
Third place 1 point
Relay Events
First place 7 points
430 SCHEDULING AND STAFFING DUAL MEETS
431 Except where noted in these rules there shall be no restrictions as to the number of dual meets a team may have or the number of times teams may swim against each other during a season.
432 Meet Referee
432.1 The host team shall be responsible for providing an individual to serve as the meet referee.
432.2 The meet referee may also serve as the starter and stroke and turn judge for the meet.
432.3 The meet referee shall supervise all of the competition and shall be responsible for all disqualifications and for resolving discrepancies regarding recorded times.
432.4 The meet referee should be an impartial individual with adequate knowledge of all rules and procedures pertaining to the competition.
432.5 The meet referee shall be approved by all participating teams prior to the meet.
433 Meet Manager
434.1 The host team shall provide a qualified individual to serve as the meet manager.
434.2 The meet manager shall supervise all administrative aspects of the meet.
434 Timers
435.1 Each team participating in the meet shall be responsible for providing timers.
435.2 The host team should notify the visiting team(s) prior to the meet as to the number of timers needed and whether teams need to supply their own watches.
435 Other Personnel
436.1 Each team is responsible to provide sufficient personal to meet their teams administrative responsibilities.
440 APPROVED INVITATIONALS
441 An approved invitational is any meet sponsored by a group member which meets the SCAA rules of competition guidelines for an approved invitational.
442 Group members may sponsor only one invitational each calendar year.
443 A group member may sponsor an invitational which is hosted by another group member with their consent.
444 Approved invitationals must be cleared with the SCAA prior to the season in which they will take place.
445 Any required
application must be completed and fees paid prior to receiving
approval.
446 SCAA approved invitationals shall be clearly marked as such on the entry form.
447 An approved invitational must be open to all members of SCAA.
448 Any member of SCAA who submits an entry for an approved invitational prior to the entry deadline may not be rejected from the meet.
449 A complete record of the meet results, with individual swimmers sorted by team, must be submitted to the league records chair.
450 LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIPS
451 Meet Format
451.1 The SCAA league championships shall be a United States Swimming sanctioned event.
451.2 The league championships may be a two-day competition.
451.3 To permit all age groups an opportunity to participate in league championships, the participation of all age groups 10 and younger shall alternate days or sessions with all age groups 11 and older, as described herein. In odd-numbered calendar years, winter season championships will consist of all age groups 10 and younger participating on the first day, or session and all age groups 11 and older participating on the second day or session; summer season championships will reverse this order, with all age groups 11 and older participating on the first day or session, and all age groups 10 and younger participating on the second day or session. In even-numbered calendar year the opposite schedule will be adopted. Following is the age group schedule through the year 2009.
451.4 The events offered and the order of events shall follow the recommended guidelines outlined in Sections 425.1-425.91.
452 Entries
452.1 Entry deadline
452.11 All entries must be received by the entry deadline.
452.12 The entry deadline shall be determined by the board of directors
452.13 The entry deadline shall be no earlier than 21 days prior to the first day of competition.
452.2 Entry forms
452.21 Entries for the league championship shall be submitted by teams via Team Manager Software, emailed to the Records Chair.
452.22 Swimmers who appear on the entry form who are not qualified will not be permitted to swim the meet.
452.23 Each individual swimmers first and last name, age, and SCS number must be provided with the entries.
452.3 Submitted times.
452.31 A time must be submitted for each event that a swimmer is entered into.
452.32 Submitted times must be the best recorded time for the particular event which the swimmer is entered into.
452.33 Submitted times may be achieved in either SCAA or USS approved
competition.
452.34 If a swimmer does not have a recorded time for an event an estimated time will be permitted.
452.35 Rationale for estimated times should be reasonable and verifiable.
452.4 Unattached swimmers.
452.41 Swimmers who are required to participate as unattached shall be clearly indicated on the entry form by writing "UN" next to their names.
452.5 Entry limits
452.51 Each swimmer shall be permitted to enter no more than three individual events.
452.52 Each team shall be permitted to enter no more that one relay team for each relay event.
453 Qualifications
453.1 Only swimmers who have met the qualification guidelines are permitted to participate in league championships.
453.2 Swimmers must compete in a minimum of five individual events from at least two SCAA-approved meets during the season.
453.3 No more than three events from a single meet may be used for the purpose of qualifying for the league championships.
453.4 All meets used for qualification must have been completed prior to the entry deadline.
454 Divisions
454.11 Swimmers will be placed into one of three divisions; to be designated as "B" for Blue, "R" for Red, and "W" for White for each of their individual events based upon their entered time for that event.
454.12 A swimmer may not place or score points in any other division than the one they are in.
454.2 Assigning swimmers to divisions
454.21 If there are 18 or more swimmers entered into an event then the event shall be divided into thirds, with the third having the fastest times as Division B, the next fastest as Division R, and the final third as the Division W.
454.22 If there is an odd number of swimmers then no division shall be larger than any which is faster than it.
454.23 If there are fewer than 18 swimmers entered into an event then the fastest six swimmers would be placed into the Division B, the next six fastest would be Division R, and the remaining swimmers would be Division W.
454.3 All relays shall compete in Division "B" for Blue
454.4 Team divisions
54.41 Teams shall compete for overall score in their divisions based on the SCAA Rules of Competition (Section 220).
455 Scoring
455.1 Individual events shall be scored as
follows:

455.2 Relay events shall receive double the amount of points awarded for individual event.
456 Awards
456.1 Awards shall be given in each individual event for first through sixth place, for each division.
456.2 Awards shall be given in each relay event to all members of the relays finishing first through third.
456.3 All awards shall be determined by the SCAA board of directors
457 Responsibilities of Participating Teams
457.1 The league may assign responsibilities to each team in order to ensure a well-run meet.
457.2 The number of swimmers each team has entered should be considered when making these assignments.
457.3 Failure to perform the assigned responsibilities by a team may result in the disqualification of its members from the meet.
460 LEAGUE-SPONSORED MEETS
461 If approved by the board of directors the league may sponsor additional meets during a season.
462 League sponsored meets shall be open to all members of SCAA.
463 League sponsored meets may be designated as approved for qualification for league championships.
464 Except for the league championships, no league-sponsored meet shall be team scored or designated as a championship meet.
465 SCAA DISTANCE MEET
465.1 Meet Format
465.11 The SCAA distance meet shall be a United States Swimming sanctioned event.
465.12 The events offered and the order of
