Rules of Competition

SECTION 300: ATHLETES

310 ELIGIBILITY

311 SCAA Competition is open to all individual swimmers who meet the criteria set forth by the SCAA Rules of Competition.

312 Swimmers must be age 18 or younger.

312.1 A swimmer’s age is to be determined by their age on the first day of the competition in question.

313 Swimmers must be bona fide members of a team belonging to SCAA.

314 Swimmers must be registered with United States Swimming in accordance with the guidelines set forth by Southern California Swimming.

315 Swimmers must be registered with SCAA.

320 REGISTRATION

321 A swimmer becomes a registered member of SCAA at the time of his or her first SCAA-approved competition within the season.

321.1 Verification with SCAA of the swimmer’s participation shall be the responsibility of the team to which the swimmer belongs.

322 Each swimmer will be registered with the team to which he or she belongs at the time of competition.

323 Swimmers are able to register with only one team each season.

330 TEAM REPRESENTATION

331 After registering with the league, a swimmer may not represent any other team, either within or outside the league, than the one he or she is registered with during the season and still be eligible for league competition.

331.9 Exceptions to rule 331

331.91 Swimmers may represent collegiate or high school teams in closed interscholastic competition, without penalty.

340 UNATTACHED SWIMMERS

341 An unattached swimmer is a member of an SCAA team who participates in competition without representing any team.

342 As required by SCAA, USS, or CIF, a swimmer who is otherwise qualified may participate in league competition as unattached.

343 All unattached swimmers shall be clearly indicated as unattached
              on the    meet results.

344 Unattached swimmers will not score points for their teams.

345 Unattached swimmers may not participate in relays.

346 Teams are accountable for all fees incurred by their members who
             participate as unattached.
